THEATRE COMPANY
A bold and energetic new theatre company dedicated to reviving classics and exploring important topics through new writing
At the start of 2024, fourteen graduates from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire created ‘Blue Duck Theatre Company’ - channelling their creative energies into exciting new writing and making Shakespeare fun and accessible to all.
OUR FIRST PRODUCTION
As You Like It
On June 1st we debuted our first production of ‘As You Like It’. Combining Brechtian elements of theatre with high energy slapstick comedy, we created a bold new interpretation of this classic play that is accessible for all, whilst remaining close to Shakespeare’s roots.
UPCOMING
Spare Room
A new writing project currently in the works - a witty, naturalistic comedy that explores important themes around gender politics and consent.

MEET THE FOUNDERS
Sam Dinnage
Director of our debut show ‘As You Like It’ and Co-Founder of Blue Duck Theatre Company, Sam has an interest in all sides of creating. He is a writer too, with his credits including ‘No Sugar’ and ‘Instinct Man’, as well as co-writing the upcoming production ‘Spare Room’ with Georgina. With a talent for all things funny, Sam boldly injected slapstick comedy and tongue in cheek humour into his direction and his role as the charming yet goofy Orlando.
Georgina Housby
Creating a theatre company has always been a lifelong ambition for Georgina. Meeting other talented actors at drama school allowed that dream to become a reality. With a wide range of experience in Shakespeare, it was a no-brainer that ‘As You Like It’ would be a great start. Georgina produced the show whilst also playing the witty yet ridiculously besotted Rosalind in this bizarre yet wonderful play. Also working on the other side of theatre production, Georgina is writing ‘Spare Room’, a naturalistic comedy set in a student house. This is a new piece of writing that explores important themes around gender politics and consent.

REVIEWS
Fabulous afternoon at MAC’s Hexagon theatre, hilarious, deceptively slapdash - it must take great confidence to present such physicality in so tight a space. Anarchic and irreverent yet oddly faithful production, a treat for us all, thank you *****
Comical facial expressions and tongue in cheek humour. A great introduction to Shakespeare and classical theatre
Hugely entertaining with high energy and many laughs, the cast were thoroughly engaging. A wonderful afternoon of escapism
GET INVOLVED
We are very excited to announce the launch of our new school workshops - a programme that aims to get young people excited about Shakespeare and creating!
With funding for the arts dropping and the continual push for academia over creativity, we feel very strongly that it is opportunities like workshops in schools that can ignite a spark in young people that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to find.
Through our workshops we aim to build confidence and encourage young people to explore their creativity and open their minds to theatre. We will cover a lot of the skills that come with creating your own theatre company - acting, directing, writing, building a character, working as an ensemble and more. We would love to introduce classical theatre to young people in the way that it is meant to be enjoyed - avoiding their first introduction to Shakespeare being through a book!
